HD10 special: U.S. Rep. Jake Ellzey (R-Waxahachie) endorsed former Rep. John Wray (R-Waxahachie) to fill his unexpired state House term.

HD3: Magnolia real estate agent and Montgomery ISD trustee Kelly McDonald established a campaign committee for a potential primary challenge of Rep. Cecil Bell Jr. (R-Magnolia). McDonald also serves as a commissioner of the Montgomery Co. housing agency, commissioner of the Montgomery Co. veterans’ services agency and as president of the Magnolia Rotary Club.

HD33: Wylie construction business owner Scott LaMarca established a campaign committee for a potential run for the Texas House as a Republican. He did not indicate a district, but appraisal records indicate he resides in the Rockwall Co. portion of Wylie. This would place him is HD33, which is currently held by Rep. Justin Holland (R-Heath), making LaMarca a potential primary challenger.

House Quorum: The Texas Supreme Court ruled that Democrats absent from the House may be arrested and compelled to attend to re-establish quorum. The Texas Constitution “empowers the House to ‘compel the attendance of absent members,’” wrote Justice Jimmy Blacklock for the Court. “Adopting Plaintiffs’ view of Article III, Section 10 would restructure the Texas Constitution’s careful balance between the right of a legislative minority to resist legislation and the prerogative of the majority to conduct business.”

Filing Deadline: Yesterday (Monday) was the last day for candidates to file for local offices on the November 2 general election ballot. It was also the last day that a bond or issue proposition could be ordered for placement on the ballot.
