HD45: San Marcos veterans nonprofit officer and unsuccessful 2018 Republican candidate Austin Talley announced he would challenge Rep. Erin Zwiener (D-Driftwood). Talley received 7% of the vote in the five-way Republican primary last year.

HD47: Lakeway attorney Aaron Reitz established a campaign committee for a potential challenge of Rep. Vikki Goodwin (D-Austin) as a Republican. 83762

HD134: Houston attorney Ruby Lichte Powers established a campaign committee for a potential challenge of Rep. Sarah Davis (R-Houston) as a Democrat. 83764

CD31: Hutto resident Jeremiah Landin established a campaign committee for a potential challenge of U.S. Rep. John Carter (R-Round Rock) as a Democrat.

Minor Parties: Rep. Mayes Middleton (R-Wallisville) postponed further consideration of his bill to increase the vote percentage needed for a political party to obtain automatic ballot access until March 2, 2020, effectively killing his bill. Under current law, a political party is guaranteed access to the next general election ballot if one of its candidates receives at least 5% of the vote. House Bill 4416 would have increased that threshold to 10%.

Dallas: Sen. Royce West (D-Dallas) endorsed Rep. Eric Johnson (D-Dallas) for the mayoral runoff.

McAllen: As expected, council member John Ingram has requested a recount. He was one vote shy of an outright victory. If the recount does not change that result, he would face Seby Haddad in a June 22 runoff.

Rogers: A tied mayoral election will be decided by a runoff after neither Mayor Tammy Cockrum nor former Mayor and current council member Billy Crow, also her uncle, was willing to concede or settle the election in another manner. No date has been set.

Weslaco: The city council ordered a July 16 special election to fill the unexpired term of former D4 council member Jerry Tafolla. Candidates must file by May 15.
