GOV: Dallas Co. Sheriff Lupe Valdez (D) is considering resigning her office as early as the end of next week in order to seek the Democratic gubernatorial nomination. Earlier news reports that she had resigned proved premature. Meanwhile, Houston investor and entrepreneur Andrew White said he would make an announcement about the race next week. His social media activity has strongly suggested he will also seek the Democratic nomination.
SD30: An internal poll conducted for the Pat Fallon (R-Frisco) campaign shows a statistical dead heat between him and incumbent Sen. Craig Estes (R-Wichita Falls), but more than two out of every five likely primary voters are undecided. The Wickers Group poll follows three weeks of television, radio and digital media advertising in the district focused on sanctuary cities (video) and illegal immigration (video).
HD3: Waller dairy farmer Lisa Seger established a campaign committee for a potential challenge of Rep. Cecil Bell Jr. (R-Magnolia), likely as a Democrat.
HD45 open: Wimberly emergency medical service corporation director and Wimberly ISD board member Ken Strange announced he would seek the seat being vacated by Rep. Jason Isaac (R-Dripping Springs) as a Republican.
