HD21: Rep. Dade Phelan (R-Port Neches) announced he would seek re-election to a fourth term.

HD29: Rep. Ed Thompson (R-Pearland) announced he would seek re-election to a fifth term.

HD112: Rep. Angie Chen Button (R-Garland) announced she would seek re-election to a seventh term.

CD10: U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Austin) announced his campaign raised $525K during the second quarter and has around $700K on hand.

CD21: U.S. Rep. Chip Roy (R-Austin) announced his campaign raised $400K during the second quarter and has $654K on hand. About three out of every five contributions came from new donors.

CD31: Cedar Park sales director Jeremy Bravo established a campaign committee for a potential challenge of U.S. Rep. John Carter (R-Round Rock) as a Democrat, becoming at least the 11th person to take a formal step toward running against Carter (8 Democrats, 3 Republicans).

CD32: Former Rep. Dan Branch (R-Dallas) is considering challenging U.S. Rep. Colin Allred (R-Dallas).

CD36: Houston former police officer and municipal judge R.J. Boatman established a campaign committee for a potential primary challenge of U.S. Rep. Brian Babin (R-Woodville).

Midland Co.: Rory McKinney announced he would run for sheriff. McKinney, the chief deputy within the sheriff’s office, was passed over for appointment to the position by the Commissioners Court following the death of former Sheriff Gary Painter. The court voted to appoint Richard Gillette, an investigator with the Midland Co. District Attorney’s Office, as Acting Sheriff. Gillette said at the time that he would not seek a full term.

Houston: Mayoral challenger Tony Buzbee said he contributed $7.5M to his campaign and spent more than $2M during the first half of the year. He will report having $5.1M on hand.
