Voter ID: “Despite the Remedial Order’s clarity, Texas’s voter education and poll worker training documents depart from it,” claimed the U.S. Dept. of Justice in a motion to enforce the interim remedial order filed today (Wednesday). U.S. District Court Judge Nelda Gonzales Ramos has ordered a Monday hearing on that motion.

In the motion, the government argues the state “narrowed dramatically the scope of voters protected by the Court’s Order” by applying it solely to voters who “have not obtained” and “cannot obtain” required photo identification. In other words, the state’s education materials do not provide the same protections to voters who have such an ID but not in their possession at the polls.
