Campaign Finance: Opposed state and legislative candidates were required to file 8-day-out campaign finance reports today (Monday). These reports include contributions received and expenditures made between September 28 and October 27. We expect them to be available online tomorrow, at which point we will begin updating our Crib Sheets and analyzing key races.

GOV: The campaign of Gov. Greg Abbott (R) said he raised more than $3.5M between September 28 and October 27 and has more than $19.7M on hand. Abbott raised $4.3M during the same period in 2014, when he had $13.3M on hand.

LTGOV: The campaign of Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R) said he raised more than $1.4M during the 8-day-out reporting period. Patrick raised $2.1M during the same period in 2014.

House Speaker: Rep. John Zerwas (R-Richmond) formally terminated his candidacy with a filing at the Texas Ethics Commission. Six active candidates remain: Reps. Travis Clardy (R-Nacogdoches), Drew Darby (R-San Angelo), Eric Johnson (D-Dallas), Phil King (R-Weatherford), Tan Parker (R-Flower Mound) and Four Price (R-Amarillo). The Texas Tribune’s Cassandra Pollock and Alex Samuels reported his withdrawal comes “amid an effort [by] roughly 40 GOP House members to draft” Rep. Dennis Bonnen (R-Angleton) into the race.
