RRC open: The Dallas Morning News made no endorsement in the Republican runoff between former Rep. Wayne Christian (R-Center) and Gary Gates. The paper endorsed Grady Yarbrough in the Democratic runoff.

SD24 open: The Dawn Buckingham campaign released a new radio ad accusing Rep. Susan King (R-Abliene) of being “Obama’s Texas ally” when it comes to Obamacare and illegal immigration. The ad can be heard here.

Meanwhile, Americans for Prosperity’s Peggy Venable endorsed Buckingham. Also, the Buckingham campaign announced the endorsement of five Central Texas mayors including Bandera’s John Hegemier and Goldthwaite’s Mike McMahan.

HD5 open: Comptroller Glenn Hegar endorsed Cole Hefner.

HD27: Texas AFL-CIO COPE reiterated its endorsement of Rep. Ron Reynolds.

HD64 open: Denton Co. Constable Doug Boydston and the Texas Municipal Police Assoc. endorsed Lynn Stucky.

HD120 open: Texas AFL-CIO COPE reiterated its endorsement of Mario Salas.

HD139 open: Texas AFL-CIO COPE endorsed Rep.-elect Jarvis Johnson. The union previously endorsed Randy Bates in the primary.

ED9 open: The Texas Parent PAC endorsed Kevin Ellis.

CD15 open: Texas AFL-CIO COPE endorsed Vicente Gonzalez. The union did not make an endorsement in the primary.

PRES: Today (Monday) was the deadline for independent candidates for President to file for a place on the Texas general election ballot. None did. A petition needed to be accompanied by signatures of nearly 80K registered voters who did not vote in either major party’s primary or participated in either minor party’s convention. The deadline to file as an official write-in is August 22.

Austin: More campaign finance reports filed by Ridesharing Works for Austin PAC indicate that more $9.1 million was contributed either in cash or in-kind by Uber and Lyft in support of Prop 1, which was defeated Saturday, 44%-56%.
