SC8: The Texas Senate unanimously confirmed former appellate justice Brett Busby for the Supreme Court seat vacated by former Justice Phil Johnson, whose November resignation took effect at the end of 2018. Gov. Greg Abbott (R) nominated Busby last month. Busby lost his 2018 re-election bid to the 14th Court of Appeals, 51%-49%. His is up for election in 2020.

PRES: The Beto O’Rourke campaign said more than 128K individual contributors donated to his campaign within its first 24 hours at an average donation of $48. O’Rourke raised $6.1M during those first 24 hours, edging out the Bernie Sanders campaign’s $5.9M raised during the corresponding first 24 hours following his announcement. Sanders had more than 225K individual donors, nearly 100K more than O’Rourke, at an average donation of $27.

Orange Co.: District Attorney John Kimbrough announced he will seek an eighth term in 2020. He has served as the County Attorney and District Attorney since 1993. He was unopposed in 2016. Phillip Smith, a longtime prosecutor working for Kimbrough, has filed paperwork for a potential run for the office, but he said he did so only if Kimbrough retires.

Dallas: Hillary Clinton endorsed Regina Montoya, a former Clinton campaign aide, for mayor.
