HD135: Republican challenger Justin Ray conceded his 300-vote loss to Rep. Jon Rosenthal (D-Houston). “While we didn’t get the results as we all hoped for, I can’t help but feel incredibly grateful for the overwhelming amount of support that our campaign received,” Ray said in a Facebook post. “I wish Representative Rosenthal the best of luck during the upcoming legislative session and remain hopeful for the future of Texas.”

AG (2022): The Associated Press reported that the Federal Bureau of Investigation has opened an inquiry into allegations that Atty. Gen. Ken Paxton (R) abused his office. Eight former staffers have alleged Paxton broke several laws to aid a donor, Austin real estate developer Nate Paul. Four of those former staffers have filed a whistleblower lawsuit alleging retaliation.

In a statement addressed to the citizens of Texas, Paxton called the allegations “are overblown, based upon assumptions and to a large degree misrepresent the facts.” He added that knows “a little something about being falsely accused and being forced to counter allegations that are the result of overreach by prosecutors and law enforcement.”

Pearland: Mayor-elect Kevin Cole will be sworn in tomorrow (Wednesday), succeeding Tom Reid, 95, who has served as mayor for all but a three-year period since 1978. Reid, who did not seek re-election, will take a new position with the city: mayor emeritus.
