GOV: In a fundraising email, Gov. Greg Abbott (R) pounced on former Dallas Co. Sheriff Lupe Valdez’s (D) comments that, as governor, she would “eviscerate” Senate Bill 4, sanctuary city legislation passed last year. The email identified Valdez as the “Democratic frontrunner,” marking at least the second time in a week that Abbott has singled out Valdez, who still faces Houston entrepreneur Andrew White in the Democratic runoff.

Meanwhile, in response to a media report pointing out that neither Democratic candidate released their tax returns, White tweeted a two-item “To Do List.” Item one was “Beat Lupe.” Item two was file his tax return. “First things first,” he concluded.

Earlier in the day, White tweeted, “Happy Where are Trump’s Tax Returns? Day!”

CD5 open: Atty. Gen. Ken Paxton (R) endorsed Bunni Pounds in the Republican runoff over Rep. Lance Gooden (R-Terrell).

CD27 open: The national Club for Growth PAC endorsed Michael Cloud in the Republican runoff over Bech Bruun. The group has previously endorsed Sen. Van Taylor (CD3), Bunni Pounds (CD5), Ron Wright (CD6) and Chip Roy (CD21).
