CD15: New Braunfels executive coach Ryan Krause established a campaign committee for a potential challenge of U.S. Rep. Vicente Gonzalez (D-McAllen) as a Republican. He unsuccessfully sought the 2018 Republican nomination for open CD21, finishing 9th in the 18-candidate field (3%).

CD23 open: El Paso immigration attorney Enrique Garcia established a campaign committee for a potential run for the seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Will Hurd (R-San Antonio). Garcia unsuccessfully sought the 2018 Democratic nomination for open CD16, finishing fourth out of six candidates (5%).

CD28: U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) announcement that the House would begin formal impeachment proceedings against President Trump yielded a fairly predictable set of responses from Democratic and Republican members and candidates. All 13 Democratic members of the Texas delegation expressed some form of support. U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Laredo) was the last to do so, saying in a revised statement that “if investigations prove that impeachment is the necessary course of action, then I will be forced to act on impeachment proceedings.” Primary opponent Jessica Cisneros tweeted earlier in the day that Cuellar “would rather toe the Trump line than take a stand for our country and this community.”
