HD13 special: The three candidates vying in the special for the unexpired term of former Rep. Leighton Schubert (R-Caldwell) filed 30-day-out reports late last week:
- Jill Wolfskill reported $56K in contributions, $21K in expenditures and has $47K on hand. Three donors – Flower Mound retiree Darlene Pendery ($25K), Houston hotelier Douglas Bosch ($20K) and Texas Right to Life PAC ($5K in kind) – provided 90% of her contributions.
- Ben Leman reported $23K in contributions, $53K in expenditures and has just over $2K on hand. His largest single contributor was Associated Republicans of Texas, which gave nearly $6K in kind for direct mail.
- Cecil Webster reported $12K in contributions, $6K in expenditures and has $12K on hand. His largest contribution was $2K from Houston resident Joel Shannon.
The two Republican candidates are also competing in the runoff election, which occurs 17 days later. The special election campaign finance reports provide a rare window into the fundraising that has occurred since the primary election. Every other runoff candidate is not required to report contributions until early voting for the runoff is already underway.
CD7 open: The Houston GLBT Caucus endorsed Lizzie Pannill Fletcher in the Democratic runoff over Laura Moser. The group did not make an endorsement for the primary.
CD21 open: U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Tyler) endorsed Chip Roy over Matt McCall in the Republican runoff for the seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Lamar Smith (R-San Antonio).
Lake Travis ISD: Rep. Paul Workman (R-Austin) endorsed Daniel Gonzalez for an open school board seat. Gonzalez, a longtime government affairs director for the Texas Assoc. of Realtors and former legislative aide, faces three opponents.
