Filing deadline: Candidates for offices on the May 5 uniform election ballot must file by tomorrow, or by Tuesday if they wish to be write-in candidates.

Early voting for the March 6 primary election begins Tuesday.

COMP: The San Antonio Express-News endorsed Joi Chevalier in the Democratic primary to challenge Comp. Glenn Hegar (R).

AGRIC: Grassroots America We the People endorsed challenger Trey Blocker over Comm. Sid Miller (R). Before the 2014 primary, the group recommended Miller over his four primary rivals for what was then an open seat. Earlier this month, the group hosted both candidates for a debate in Tyler. Meanwhile, the candidates met in a McLennan Co. forum. The Houston Chronicle’s Andrea Zelinski reported that Miller was well received and Blocker’s jabs “fell flat.” Miller is from nearby Stephenville.

SD5: Texans for Lawsuit Reform PAC endorsed Sen. Charles Schwertner (R-Georgetown).

SD25: Texans for Lawsuit Reform PAC endorsed Sen. Donna Campbell (R-New Braunfels).

HD9: The campaign of Rep. Chris Paddie (R-Marshall) released a new ad focusing on taxes.

HD62 open: “Hi, I’m Kevin Couch, and I’m pretty bad at being a politician,” the candidate says in a new campaign video. “That’s what happens when you’re an outsider.”

The former Sherman council member is one of three Republicans seeking to succeed the retiring Rep. Larry Phillips (R-Sherman).

HD89 open: The Dallas Morning News endorsed former Collin Co. Justice of the Peace John Payton in the Republican primary for the seat being vacated by Rep. Jodie Laubenberg (R-Wylie).

HD106 open: Rep. Pat Fallon (R-Frisco) endorsed Jared Patterson to succeed him.

HD121 open: The San Antonio Express-News endorsed Steve Allison in the Republican primary for the seat being vacated by Speaker Joe Straus (R-San Antonio).

HD122: Gov. Greg Abbott (R) will appear at a rally for challenger Chris Fails in San Antonio on Wednesday, the second day of early voting.

HD134: Gov. Greg Abbott (R) will appear at a rally for challenger Susanna Dokupil in Bellaire on Tuesday, the first day of early voting.

CD27 open: Nueces County Judge Loyd Neal endorsed Bech Bruun for the seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Blake Farenthold (R-Corpus Christi).

Statewide Judicial Elections: A trial that could change the way Texas Supreme Court justices and Court of Criminal Appeals judges are elected concluded today in Corpus Christi. U.S. District Judge Nelva Gonzales Ramos will decide whether the statewide election of those judicial offices “submerges Latino voters” and violates the federal Voting Rights Act.
