Five candidates filed for the September 28 special election to fill the unexpired term of former Rep. Leo Pacheco (D-San Antonio):

  • San Antonio legislative aide Katie Farias (D)
  • Former Rep. John Lujan (R-San Antonio)
  • San Antonio attorney Desi Martinez (D)
  • San Antonio zoning director Frank Ramirez (D) and
  • Universal City real estate agent Adam Salyer (R).

All filed last week. No one filed today (Monday), the filing deadline. Early voting begins Monday.

SD12 open: Rep. Jared Patterson (R-Frisco) told Quorum Report’s Scott Braddock that he would not seek the seat being vacated by Sen. Jane Nelson (R-Flower Mound) and would instead seek re-election.

HD122: Former Bexar Co. Dist. Atty. Nico LaHood announced he would challenge Rep. Lyle Larson (R-San Antonio) in the Republican primary. LaHood was a Democrat when he ran for district attorney and lost the 2018 Democratic primary to Joe Gonzales.

CD1: Center tech executive Aditya Atholi established a campaign committee for a potential primary challenge of U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Tyler).

CD12: Fort Worth middle school principal Ryan Catala established a campaign committee for a potential primary challenge of U.S. Rep. Kay Granger (R-Fort Worth). He joins 2020 primary challenger Chris Putnam, who announced his desire for a rematch against Granger earlier this month.
