Speaker Joe Straus received 127 votes to Rep. Scott Turner’s 19. Two members were recorded absent: Rep. Tom Craddick, who took the oath of office in Midland, and Rep. Dawnna Dukes, whose vote did not register. There are two vacancies (HD13, HD123).

As of last week, we were aware of 122 public pledges for Straus: 75 Republicans (including Straus) and 46 Democrats. He received all of those votes (except for one that did not register) plus Reps. Alma Allen, Yvonne Davis, Brooks Landgraf,Trey Martinez Fischer, Toni Rose and Mike Schofield.

Reps. Rodney Anderson, Dustin Burrows, Pat Fallon, Bryan Hughes, Mark Keough, Stephanie Klick, Matt Krause, Jeff Leach, Matt Rinaldi, Scott Sanford, Matt Schaefer, Matt Shaheen, David Simpson, Stuart Spitzer, Jonathan Stickland, Tony Tinderholt, Scott Turner, Molly White and Bill Zedler voted for Turner.

Turner received 16 votes from the 50 Republicans who have served one term or less. He received 3 votes from the 48 Republicans who have served two terms or more.

Update: In the House Journal for January 13, Dukes’ statement of vote indicated she would have voted for Straus, but her vote did not register.
