SD14 open: Rep. Eddie Rodriguez (D-Austin) announced he has formed an exploratory committee for the seat being vacated by Sen. Kirk Watson (D-Austin). The committee’s co-chairs are Reps. Gina Hinojosa (D-Austin), Donna Howard (D-Austin) and Celia Israel (D-Austin).
Early voting concludes tomorrow (Friday) for the March 3 primary election.
The pace of voting has picked up as the early voting period draws to a close. In the 15 counties with the most registered voters, 75K Democrats voted yesterday (Wednesday), mostly in person, and nearly 50K Republicans voted, again mostly in person. These were the largest single-day totals aside from Day One, which includes mail ballots received up to and including that date. Historically, the last two days see even higher totals.
Statewide, turnout in the Democratic primary is 3.9% of registered voters. Republican turnout is 4.7%.
PRES: Rep. Art Fierro (D-El Paso) flipped his support to Mike Bloomberg from Elizabeth Warren, whom he endorsed on January 21.
