Democratic precinct chairs will choose a replacement nominee for the late El Franco Lee on June 25. He was running unopposed for re-election, and his name remains on the ballot.

The party intends to host a public candidate forum on May 21.

Several candidates have already announced interest in the race, including Sen. Rodney Ellis (D-Houston) and Houston council members Dwight Boykins, Jerry Davis and Larry Green. Elis is currently unopposed for re-election. Interim Co. Commissioner Gene Locke is not expected to be a candidate. He was appointed on January 22 to fill Lee’s unexpired term.
