Republican John Lujan defeated Democrat Tomas Uresti, 52%-48%, to win the unexpired term for HD118, flipping the seat to the Republican Party and bringing their total number in the House to 99. Lujan’s 171-vote win caps a run of Republican influence in Bexar Co. special and runoff elections dating back to last January.
Lujan faces Robert Casias, who came in sixth in the special election with 5%, in the Republican primary. Uresti faces Gabe Farias, who finished 3% behind Uresti in the special election, in the Democratic primary. The district is about 58% Democratic in presidential general elections, making it the bluest seat currently held by a Republican. We’ll have some perspective on this election tomorrow.
