The special runoff election between Republican John Lujan III and Democrat Tomas Uresti has drawn just 880 voters in person during the first two days of early voting. One day of early voting remains.

The total votes cast so far is almost two thirds of the total early votes cast in the HD124 runoff election last April. It is significantly below the pace of early voting from the November 3 special election, which coincided with a constitutional general election. Only 2,400 total votes were cast in that runoff election, in which Ina Minjarez defeated Delicia Herrera by 241 votes.

New campaign finance reports were due from the candidates yesterday. Lujan’s runoff campaign finance report indicates he received $23,550 in contributions, $20K of which was an in-kind contribution from Texans for Lawsuit Reform for mail pieces. He has $7,751 on hand as of January 16. Uresti’s runoff report was not available online.
