Dear Subscriber,

We are less than a year away from the March 1, 2016 primary.

A few things we wanted to share with you today:

Lang to Challenge Keffer. Confirming what we reported yesterday, Hood Co. Constable Mike Lang resigned today (effective March 10) to challenge Rep. Jim Keffer.

Lubbock Mayor Passing on Race. Conservative talk radio host Chad Hasty tweeted that Lubbock Mayor Glen Robertson will not challenge U.S. Rep. Randy Neugebauer in 2016. Robertson is serving his second 2-year term and is eligible to seek re-election in May 2016.

Party ID Required. Rep. Pat Fallon (R-Frisco) filed legislation that would require primary voters to have previously declared their political affiliation in order to vote. House Bill 2258 would also restore partisan voter registration in Texas. Only people affiliated with a political party could vote in that party’s primary, be a primary candidate, be the party’s nominee for an office or be a presidential elector. The bill would create an offense if a person votes in a primary without being affiliated with the party.
