Dear Subscriber,

We are now less than a year away from the March 1, 2016 primary.

A few things we wanted to share with you today:

New Members. Reps.-elect Diego Bernal, John Cyrier and Leighton Schubert officially lose the “-elect” part of their title tomorrow at noon. Sen.-elect Jose Menendez will be sworn in on Wednesday at 2 p.m.

New CTAs. Three candidates filed campaign treasurer appointments today:

  • Delicia Herrera of San Antonio, for the forthcoming HD124 special election. She lost the 2012 Democratic primary for HD125, receiving 33% against Justin Rodriguez. She served two terms on the San Antonio council from 2005-09.
  • Mike Lang, for HD60. We think this may be Hood Co. Constable Mike Lang, a Republican, who defeated an incumbent in the 2012 Republican primary.
  • Aaron Lopez, for HD143.

San Antonio Races Set. A total of 14 candidates filed for mayor, and all 10 incumbent council members face opposition after Friday’s filing deadline. A complete list of candidates can be found here: http://www.sanantonio.gov/CandidateListing.aspx.

King Launches Bid. Attorney Bill King officially kicked off his mayoral campaign today standing in the middle of a Houston street. Fixing the city’s finances and roads will be his top priorities. Meanwhile, Harris Co. Sheriff Adrian Garcia told KPRC’s Ryan Korsgard, “I’m not even thinking about a decision.” The filing deadline is August 24.
