SD1: Texas Right to Life endorsed Rep. Bryan Hughes.

Re-election Announcements: Rep. Cindy Burkett, Sen. Chuy Hinojosa, Rep. Dan Huberty announced re-election bids today. Reps. Drew Darby and John Wray announced  re-election bids yesterday.

CCA2: Collin Co.-based District Judge Ray Wheless announced he would run in the Republican primary to challenge Judge Lawrence Meyers (D) in the general election. Wheless announced endorsements from Collin Co. leaders including Rep. Jodie Laubenberg, Rep. Matt Shaheen and Collin Co. Judge Keith Self.

Houston Mayor: A new KHOU-Houston Public Media poll shows Rep. Sylvester Turner (16%) and former Sheriff Adrian Garcia (12%) leading the pack of mayoral hopefuls. Former city council member and U.S. Rep. Chris Bell was third at 8%. The other polled candidates were in the low single digits. Nearly half of likely voters had not made up their minds. The poll was in the field a long time — May 20 to June 21 — and surveyed 500 voters who had cast ballots in at least two of the last three city elections. The stated margin of error is 4.5%. Meanwhile, the Harris Co. AFL-CIO Council endorsed Turner.
