Former San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro has suspended his campaign for the Democratic nomination. “It simply isn’t our time,” he said in a video message to supporters, noting that there was only a month left before the Iowa caucuses and “the circumstances of this campaign.” Castro did not qualify for the two most recent Democratic debates because he did not fare well enough in pre-debate polls. His departure follows that of former U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-El Paso) in November and leaves no Texans among the major contenders still seeking the presidency.

HD28 special: The Gary Gates (R) released a new ad, “Testimonials,” featuring local endorsers expressing support for his election.

CCA3: Texas Right to Life PAC endorsed challenger Gina Parker over incumbent Judge Bert Richardson (R).

HD45: Texas Right to Life PAC endorsed Carrie Isaac for the Republican nomination to challenge Rep. Erin Zwiener (D-Driftwood).

CD17 open: Rep. Jonathan Stickland (R-Bedford) endorsed George Hindman to succeed the retiring U.S. Rep. Bill Flores (R-Bryan), citing Hindman’s declaration that he would join the Freedom Caucus if elected.

CD26: Denton resident William Robert Cunningham Jr. established a federal campaign committee for a potential challenge of U.S. Rep. Michael Burgess (R-Lewisville) as an independent. It is unclear if Cunningham filed a declaration of intent by the Decemebr 9 deadline.

New Federal Committees: Four individuals from Dallas and Rowlett – three of them using the same post office box – have established campaign committees for potential races for Congress with “Other” listed as their political affiliation. The campaign committees were established for Keiska Jefferson of Dallas (CD1), Demondria Jefferson of Rowlett (CD4), Netita Jefferson of Dallas (CD6) and Robert Wysinger of Rowlett (CD19). There are also campaign committees established for the three Jeffersons, and a Dakinya Jefferson, and Wysinger to be Libertarian candidates in Georgia, Hawai’I, Michigan, Minnesota and Mississippi, as well as President. There is also a campaign committee for Cedric Jefferson as a People Over Politics candidate for U.S. Senate for Texas. Until we learn more, we will not add these candidates to our Crib Sheets.
