Percent of all straight-ticket Republican votes cast in Travis Co. in 2012 by residents of HD47.

Travis Co. has been reliably blue in recent history as a whole, but portions of it are quite red. Rep. Paul Workman (R-Austin) received nearly 18K more votes than his 2012 Democratic challenger. A significant portion of that margin came from straight-ticket voters. In 2012, every Republican had a 12,033-vote advantage in straight-ticket voting, and 35% of all votes cast in the district were straight-ticket Republican votes.

Workman faces Austin attorney Ana Jordan and Libertarian Scott McKinlay this year. He had a $105K advantage in cash on hand as of September 29. It would take a significant change in voting patterns in the district to put the seat in play.
