$1.69 million

Difference between the combined cash on hand of Gov. Greg Abbott and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and the combined cash on hand of all candidates for Texas’ 36 congressional districts, as of December 31, 2015.

Abbott reported having $22.5 million on hand and Patrick reported $7.6 million for a combined $30.06 million.

The 34 current members of Congress from Texas who are seeking re-election reported a combined total of $25.8 million on hand. Add to that the $1.3 million reported by challengers and $1.3 million reported by open-seat candidates, and that brings the grand total to $28.37 million.

Yet, there has been at least one time when Abbott needed no one’s help to exceed the Congressional delegation’s cash on hand. In March 2014, Abbott’s nearly $30 million on hand was $7.5 million more than the entire U.S. House delegation from Texas had on hand combined.
