Gov. Greg Abbott issued a proclamation calling a special session of the Legislature to convene at 10 a.m. on July 18 to extend the expiration dates of several healthcare occupational licensing agencies. He also published “an unsigned working draft” of a “supplemental call” containing items previously announced.

Included on the supplemental call is “Legislation enhancing the detection, prosecution and elimination of mail-in ballot fraud.” Sen. Kelly Hancock (R-North Richland Hills) and Rep. Craig Goldman (R-Fort Worth) are expected to take the lead on the issue.

Under the Texas Constitution, called, or “special,” sessions of the Legislature may last up to 30 days. Generally, the Legislature addresses only items placed on the call by the Governor, but legislators are free to file legislation on any matter.
