Gov. Greg Abbott set May 7 as the date for a special election to fill the unexpired term of former Rep. Ruth Jones McClendon (D-San Antonio), who resigned effective January 31. The special election coincides with the uniform election date, but falls between the primary and runoff elections.
Six candidates filed for the primary election. Candidates seeking to run in the special election must file by March 7, which is after the primary election. As with the uniform election, early voting begins April 25 and ends May 3.
