U.S. Rep. Will Hurd (R-San Antonio) reported raising $788K and spending $1.475M between July 1 and September 30. He has $1.1M on hand. Former U.S. Rep. Pete Gallego (D-Alpine) reported raising $468K and spending $819K. He has $431K on hand.
The Congressional Leadership Fund reported spending $1.66M for media production and placement opposing Gallego, including $118K in digital advertising and nearly $1.5M in television ad placements. The National Republican Campaign Committee reported spending $1.3M on the race, mostly for advertising opposing Gallego.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee reported spending $1.6M, mostly for mail and advertising both in support of Gallego and opposing Hurd. The House Majority PAC reported spending just over $450K on advertising opposing Hurd.
More than $5 out of every $6 in independent expenditures made in Texas congressional races has gone to CD23. The race has received the 8th-highest amount of independent expenditures so far this cycle for a U.S. House seat. The race moves to the 5th most expensive of the cycle once contributions to the individual candidates are included.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee released a new ad accusing U.S. Rep. Will Hurd (R-San Antonio) of “refusing to disavow” Donald Trump’s comments (included in the ad) about the disabled, women and veterans.
The House Majority PAC also released a new ad, “Makes Sense,” which accuses Hurd of putting politics ahead of veterans and Texas families.
