A new Univ. of Texas/Texas Tribune poll finds U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R) leading U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-El Paso), 51%-45%. Libertarian nominee Neal Dikeman polls at 2%.

The poll finds other statewide Republicans leading their respective challengers:

  • Greg Abbott (R) leads former Dallas Co. Sheriff Lupe Valdez (D), 56%-37%
  • Gov. Dan Patrick (R) leads Mike Collier (D), 53%-35%; and
  • Gen. Ken Paxton (R) leads Justin Nelson (D), 48%-36%.

Cruz is viewed more favorably than O’Rourke. Cruz’s favorability rating is 51/44 and O’Rourke’s is 44/49. President Trump’s job performance is viewed slightly favorably, 48/45.
