CD15: Patriot Majority USA released a new ad, “Hard Work,” supporting U.S. Rep. Vicente Gonzalez’s (D-McAllen) re-election. The ad focuses on health care for seniors.

Local Filing Period: Candidates for local offices seeking a spot on the November general election ballot have one more week to file their applications. The filing deadline is August 20.

Primary Turnout: About 37% of the registered voters of Hawai’I voted in that state’s primary election on Saturday, dropping turnout in Texas to 31st out of the 37 states that have held primaries so far this year. Three of the states behind Texas had no contested statewide races on the ballot. Connecticut, Minnesota, Vermont and Wisconsin hold primary elections on Tuesday.

Harris Co.: Early voting continues for the August 25 special bond election. Through the first five days of early voting, just over 42K people have cast ballots, of which 32K have done so by mail. An additional 36K mail ballots have not yet been returned. Early voting continues through August 21.

El Paso: Mayor Dee Margo said an effort to recall him “doesn’t make any sense.” Open space advocate Zach Gonzalez filed a notice of intent to circulate a recall petition motivated by council action over the Lost Dog Trailhead. Specifically, Gonzalez said he and other open space advocates were ignored and had their First Amendment rights violated during council meetings. He has 60 days to gather at least 6,584 valid signatures, which is 20% of the number of people who voted in the 2017 mayoral election.
