HD145 special: Through today (Sunday), a total of 637 people have voted early, amounting to 0.9% of registered voters. Polls will be closed tomorrow (Monday) for the holiday.

CD23: Temple resident John Bohlin established a campaign committee for a potential primary challenge of U.S. Rep. Will Hurd (R-San Antonio). Temple is not located within the district.

CD26: Lewisville resident Carol Iannuzzi established a campaign committee for a potential challenge of U.S. Rep. Michael Burgess (R-Lewisville) as a Democrat.

Dallas: Former City Attorney Larry Casto has withdrawn from the mayoral race and endorsed Mike Ablon.

San Antonio: Mayor Ron Nirenberg filed for re-election. Council member Greg Brockhouse is expected to challenge him. Three minor candidates – Tony Diaz, Matt Piña and John Velasquez – have already filed.

Meanwhile, former Rep. Diana Arévalo (D-San Antonio) has opted against challenging D7 council member Ana Sandoval.

Tyler: Shirley McKellar, a four-time unsuccessful Democratic nominee for Congress, has filed for the D3 council seat. Incumbent council member Ed Moore is term-limited, and he has endorsed Pamela Phoenix, a business owner and zoning commission member, to succeed him. McKellar has lost four straight general elections to U.S. Rep. Louis Gohmert (R-Tyler). Her highest share of the vote was 27% in 2012. Council members Linda Sellers (D1) and Bob Westbrook (D5) have filed for re-election.
