House Speaker: Following an hourlong executive session, the House General Investigating Committee voted unanimously to request that the Texas Rangers conduct an inquiry into a June 12 meeting between Speaker Dennis Bonnen (R-Angleton), Rep. Dustin Burrows (R-Lubbock) and Empower Texans CEO Michael Quinn Sullivan.
HD71: Gov. Greg Abbott (R) endorsed Rep. Stan Lambert (R-Abilene) for re-election.
SEN: Plano investment advisor Mark Yancey established a campaign committee for a potential primary challenge of U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R). Austin progressive organizer Cristina Tzintzún Ramirez established a campaign committee for a potential challenge of Cornyn as a Democrat.
Filing Period: One week remains for candidates to file for offices on the November 5 general election ballot. Candidates for the HD100 special election must file by September 4.
