SD6 special: Early voting has ended for the special election to fill the unexpired term of former Sen. and current U.S. Rep.-elect Sylvia Garcia (D-Houston). Just over 10K people voted in person or by mail during the 12-day early voting period. Mail ballots represent 61% of all early votes, and that percentage is likely to increase. More than 5.5K mail ballots have not yet been returned. Tuesday is Election Day. Four candidates, including Reps. Carol Alvarado (D-Houston) and Ana Hernandez (D-Houston), are on the ballot.

Secretary of State: The state’s election chief, Secretary of State Roland Pablos, announced he is leaving office effective December 15. He was appointed to the post by Gov. Greg Abbott (R) in January 2017.

SEN: U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R) endorsed U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R) for re-election in 2020. Cornyn endorsed and campaigned for Cruz this year.

Campaign Finance: Congressional candidates on the general election ballot were required to file post-general campaign finance reports yesterday (Thursday). These include contributions received and expenditures made between October 18 and November 26. Our Crib Sheets have been updated to reflect these reports.

Amarillo: Mayor Ginger Nelson announced she would seek re-election.

Corpus Christi: The Corpus Christi Caller-Times endorsed Mayor Joe McComb, incumbent D1 council member Everett Roy, incumbent D2 council member Ben Molina and open seat candidates Roland Barrera (D3) and Gil Hernandez (D5) for the December 18 runoff election. Early voting begins tomorrow (Saturday) and runs through December 14.
