Rep. Eric Johnson (D-Dallas) announced he would run for mayor, becoming the 10th candidate in the race, joining:

  • Mike Ablon, real estate developer
  • Albert Black, businessman and former Dallas Housing Authority chair
  • Scott Griggs, patent attorney and four-term council member
  • Alyson Kennedy, retail employee and 2016 Socialist Workers Party presidential nominee
  • Lynn McBee, nonprofit executive
  • Regina Montoya, attorney and former Hillary Clinton presidential campaign fundraiser;
  • Miguel Patino
  • Miguel Solis, educator and Dallas ISD board member; and
  • Former Rep. Jason Villaba (R-Dallas).

Former City Attorney Larry Casto withdrew from the race over the weekend and endorsed Ablon. Mayor Mike Rawlings is term-limited.

Johnson, an attorney, was first elected to the Legislature in 2010 after ousting scandal-plagued former Rep. Terri Hodge (D-Dallas) in the Democratic primary. Johnson does not have to give up his legislative seat to run and intends to serve his term while campaigning.

Election Day is May 4.
