Early voting in person begins tomorrow (Monday) for the July 14 primary runoff and special elections. Voters in all 254 counties can participate in the Democratic runoff because of the statewide runoff for Railroad Commissioner. The Republican runoff is limited to all of 171 counties and portions of 24 more. Voters in Bastrop and much of Travis Cos. have the SD14 special election as well.

RRC open: The Dallas Morning News, Houston Chronicle and San Antonio Express-News reiterated their endorsements of Chrysta Castañeda for the Democratic runoff over former Rep. Roberto Alonzo (D-Dallas).

SD12: Americans for Prosperity Action endorsed Sen. Jane Nelson (R-Flower Mound).

SD19: The San Antonio Express-News reiterated its endorsement of Xochil Peña Rodriguez for the Democratic runoff over Rep. Roland Gutierrez (D-San Antonio).

SD22: Americans for Prosperity Action endorsed Sen. Brian Birdwell (R-Granbury).

HD26 open: Young Conservatives of Texas endorsed Matt Morgan in the Republican runoff over Jacey Jetton.

HD60 open: Gov. Greg Abbott (R) and Associated Republicans of Texas PAC endorsed Glenn Rogers in the Republican runoff over Jon Francis.

HD67: The Dallas Morning News reiterated its endorsement of Tom Adair for the Democratic runoff over Lorenzo Sanchez.

HD100: The Dallas Morning News reiterated its endorsement of Rep. Lorraine Birabil (D-Dallas) for the runoff over Jasmine Crockett.

HD112: Americans for Prosperity Action endorsed Rep. Angie Chen Button (R-Garland).

HD119 open: The San Antonio Express-News reiterated its endorsement of Jennifer Ramos for the Democratic runoff over Liz Campos.

HD138 open: The Houston Chronicle reiterated its endorsement of Akilah Bacy for the Democratic runoff over Jenifer Rene Pool.

HD142: The Houston Chronicle reiterated its endorsement of Rep. Harold Dutton (D-Houston) for the runoff over council member Jerry Davis.

HD148: The Houston Chronicle reiterated its endorsement of Rep. Anna Eastman (D-Houston) for the runoff over Penny “Morales” Shaw.

SEN: The Dallas Morning News and Houston Chronicle reiterated their endorsements of Sen. Royce West (D-Dallas) for the Democratic runoff over M.J. Hegar. The Morning News jointly endorsed West and former Houston council member Amanda Edwards for the primary. The candidates will debate tomorrow (Monday) broadcast on KVUE-TV Austin on air and its digital platforms.

CD3: The Dallas Morning News reiterated its endorsement of Lulu Seikaly for the Democratic runoff over Sean McCaffity.

CD18: The Houston Chronicle reiterated its endorsement of Wendell Champion for the Republican runoff over Robert Cadena.

CD23 open: The San Antonio Express-News reiterated its endorsement of Tony Gonzales II for the Republican runoff over Raul Reyes Jr.

CD24 open: The Dallas Morning News reiterated its endorsement of Kim Olson for the Democratic runoff over Candace Valenzuela.

Eye on 2022: Retiring Rep. Jonathan Stickland (R-Bedford) tweeted a rebuke of Gov. Greg Abbott (R) with the hashtag #2022:

Several members of the House Freedom Caucus have criticized Abbott for maintaining restrictions on business re-openings and permitting local mask orders in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
