SC6 (Lean Republican): The Dallas Morning News endorsed Justice Jane Bland (R).

HD67 (Toss Up): Rep. Jeff Leach’s (R-Allen) campaign released a new ad, “Unfit,” criticizing Democratic challenger Lorenzo Sanchez on law enforcement issues.

HD92 open (Lean Republican): Former Rep. Todd Smith (R-Euless) endorsed Democratic nominee Jeff Whitfield over Republican nominee Jeff Cason.

HD144 (Likely Democratic): The Houston Chronicle endorsed Rep. Mary Ann Perez (D-Houston).

HD145 (Safe Democratic): The Houston Chronicle endorsed Rep. Christian Morales (D-Houston).

PRES (Lean Republican): A new poll from Democrat-leaning Public Policy Polling (PDF) finds President Trump and Democratic challenger Joe Biden tied, 48%-48%, among registered voters. Trump’s job performance rating is 47/48.

Trump leads among men, 49%-47%, while Biden leads by the same split among women. Biden leads among independents, 54%-41%. Trump leads among Anglo voters, 66%-32%. Biden leads among Black voters, 88%-7%, and Hispanic/Latino voters, 63%-32%.

It’s important to note that the sample for this poll is registered voters, not likely voters. This late in a campaign season, polls of likely voters are more instructive.

A new Crosswind poll of likely voters shows Trump leading Biden, 51%-44%. In a finding counter to most other recent polls, Trump leads among Hispanic/Latino voters, 48%-46%, which is a 29-point swing from the Public Policy Polling survey also released today (Thursday).

SEN (Lean Republican): That Crosswind poll shows U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R) leading Democratic challenger M.J. Hegar, 48%-39%, including 41%-30% among Hispanic/Latino voters.

CD20 (Safe Democratic): The San Antonio Express-News endorsed U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-San Antonio).

CD21 (Toss Up): The San Antonio Express-News endorsed Democratic challenger Wendy Davis over U.S. Rep. Chip Roy (R-Austin).

CD26 (Likely Republican): The Dallas Morning News endorsed U.S. Rep. Michael Burgess (R-Lewisville).

CD28 (Safe Democratic): The San Antonio Express-News endorsed U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Laredo).

CD35 (Safe Democratic): The San Antonio Express-News endorsed U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-Austin).

Carrollton: Mayoral candidate Zul Mirza Mohamed was arrested and charged with 84 counts of providing false information on a voting application and 25 counts of unlawful possession of a mail ballot. The Denton Co. Sheriff’s office, assisted by the Attorney General’s office, began investigating Mohamed last month.
