Campaign Finance Reports are due tomorrow (Monday) for federal, state and local (where required) officeholders and candidates. Federal officeholders and candidates will file July quarterly reports, which disclose contributions received and expenditures made between April 1 and June 30. State and local (where required) officeholders and candidates will file July semiannual reports, which disclose contributions received and expenditures made between January 1 and June 30.

We generally see the federal cash on hand, contribution, expenditure and loan balance totals in real time during the day. We expect to have our Federal Crib Sheet fully updated as well as a brief analysis of fundraising results by Tuesday. State and local forms typically are not made available until the day after they are filed, so expect our state Crib Sheets (Statewide, House, Senate, Special Election) to be updated by Wednesday.

HD100 special: Dallas attorney Paul Stafford re-established his campaign committee for a potential run for the seat vacated by former Rep. Eric Johnson (D-Dallas). Stafford unsuccessfully ran for HD115 in 2014, losing to Matt Rinaldi (R-Irving), 57%-40%.

CD10: U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Austin) raised $259K during the second quarter, transferred $387K from other authorized committees and has $698K on hand.

CD22: U.S. Rep. Pete Olson (R-Sugar Land) raised $340K during the second quarter and has $483K on hand.

CD36: U.S. Rep. Brian Babin (R-Woodville) raised $191K during the second quarter and has $943K on hand.

Weslaco: A total of 503 people voted early for Tuesday’s special election to fill an unexpired council term. Four candidates – Humberto Chavez, Adrian Farias, Lupe Garcia and Roy Hernandez, Jr. – are seeking the seat vacated by former council member Jerry Tafolla, who resigned a week after pleading guilty to federal bribery charges. Tafolla was elected to a fourth term in November, defeating Garcia, 56%-44%. Farias unsuccessfully ran for mayor in 2013.
