Early voting began today (Monday) for the November 5 constitutional amendment, general and special elections. More than 13K voted in person or by mail in Harris Co., many of them in Houston. A little over 3K voted by mail in Dallas Co. (In person results were not available.).

HD10 open: U.S. Rep. Ron Wright (R-Arlington) endorsed Jake Ellzey (R) for the seat being vacated by Rep. John Wray (R-Waxahachie). Wright defeated Ellzey, 52%-48%, in the 2018 Republican runoff for CD6.

CD11 open: Andrews bank director and former Forsan ISD board member Cynthia Breyman established a campaign committee for a potential run for the seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Mike Conaway (R-Midland) as a Republican.

CD14: Kemah attorney Mikal Williams established a campaign committee for a potential challenge of U.S. Rep. Randy Weber (R-Pearland) as a Democrat.

PRES: The Julián Castro campaign announced he would drop out of the presidential race if he did not raise $800K by October 31.

Harris Co.: Comm. Rodney Ellis (D) announced he would seek re-election. He was first elected in 2016 following the death of longtime incumbent El Franco Lee (D) and will be seeking a full four-year term.

El Paso: Reps. Veronica Escobar (D-El Paso), Mary Gonzalez (D-El Paso) and Lina Ortega (D-El Paso) called for the city council to ask for council member Sam Morgan’s resignation following allegations that he struck his wife. He was arrested in his home earlier this month for misdemeanor assault causing bodily injury. Morgan has declined comment on the incident.

Midland: The city council ordered a January 28 special election to fill the unexpired term of D2 council member John Love III, who automatically resigned when he declared himself a Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate. Love will serve until a successor is sworn into office. Candidates must file by November 27. Early voting will begin January 13.
