HD26: Texans for Lawsuit Reform PAC endorsed Rep. Rick Miller (R-Sugar Land) for re-election. At least three Republicans have taken a formal step toward challenging him in the primary. Earlier this week, Miller took his name out of consideration as the next head of the Texas Dept. of Family and Protective Services.
HD67: Rep. Jeff Leach (R-Allen) announced he would seek re-election to a fifth term. At least five Democrats have taken a formal step toward challenging him following the incumbent’s 2-point victory in 2018.
HD77: Rep. Lina Ortega (D-El Paso) announced she would seek re-election to a third term.
HD150: Texans for Lawsuit Reform PAC endorsed Rep. Valoree Swanson (R-Spring) for re-election.
CD11 open: San Angelo rancher August Pfluger established a campaign committee for a potential run for the seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Mike Conaway (R-Midland) as a Republican. The former Air Force combat pilot has served on President Trump’s national security team. He is at least the sixth Republican to take a formal step toward running to succeed Conaway.
CD16: Canutillo ISD trustee Blanca Trout confirmed she is exploring a challenge of U.S. Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-El Paso) as a Republican. Trout was first elected in 2016 and is up for re-election in 2020. She would be able to seek re-election if she did not win the Republican nomination for Congress.
CD24 open: Bedford real estate agent Jeron Liverman established a campaign committee for a potential run for the seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Kenny Marchant (R-Coppell) as a Republican.
El Paso: Council member Cassandra Hernandez may run in the special election to fill her unexpired term, the city attorney said. A divided council ordered a November 5 special election after determining Hernandez automatically resigned when a Facebook page for her potential mayoral campaign was inadvertently viewable by the public. The filing deadline is September 26. Hernandez is also considering filing suit as she continues to argue she has not resigned.
