State Conventions: The Texas Democratic Party kicks off its virtual state convention tomorrow (Monday) at noon CT. General sessions are scheduled for Friday and Saturday. Democratic U.S. Senate runoff candidates M.J. Hegar and Sen. Royce West (D-Dallas) will debate on Saturday evening in the convention’s closing act.

The Republican Party of Texas is holding its state convention in Houston July 16-18. The Libertarian Party of Texas is holding its state convention in McAllen July 31-August 2. The Green Party of Texas held its state convention via teleconference in April.

Voter Registration: Engage Texas, a super PAC created in July 2019 to “register more Texas conservatives” to vote, has suspended its voter registration program because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. As of March 31, the PAC had raised nearly $13M and spent $6.7M, according to federal campaign finance reports.

A recent analysis of new voter registrations by the Austin American-Statesman’s Asher Price found that new voter registrations since the March primary election are down sharply from previous election cycles. Voter registration outreach has been largely halted by COVID-19, which is making person-to-person contact difficult.
